The Dataharvest European Investigative Journalism Conference, an annual event organised by Journalismfund.eu, brings together investigative journalists, data specialists and hackers to exchange ideas, brush up on skills and collaborate on stories. The conference takes place from 3 to 5 June in Mechelen. Ahead of it, on Thursday 2 June, there is a Hack Day to crunch some data sets, so journalists (in collaboration with developers) can plan story ideas during the conference.
Participation in the Hack Day is free for everyone, come join hacking forces in Mechelen!
Focus for the Hack Day will be on:
The themes for the Dataharvest Hack day are emerging now – here is the coordination page the coders use, do feel free to add https://discourse.thesponge.eu/c/dataharvest
For the Dataharvest itself, with keynotes by several of the journalists behind the #PanamaPapers investigation and by investigative journalist Heidi Blake from BuzzFeed's #TennisRacket matchfixing investigation, the 2016 edition is sure to be the most inspiring yet.
Additional sessions will include online research, tax and finance investigations, the #MEPsProject by journalists taking the European Parliament to court, and many more. The conference always focuses heavily on data driven investigation.
